The Story Behind the Project
Every extraordinary display begins with a collector’s vision.
This project started when a passionate collector from Chicago contacted Jocoin Studios with a simple idea: transform his One Piece Gear 5 figure into a custom display worthy of becoming the centerpiece of his collection.
Instead of adapting an existing design, every aspect of the display was created from scratch. Through ongoing conversations, concept development, engineering, and handcrafted craftsmanship, the project evolved into a one-of-a-kind display that reflected both the character and the collector behind it.
More than building a display case, the goal was to create an immersive environment that tells a story while protecting and showcasing the collectible for years to come.

Why This Project Started
Finding someone who can create a truly custom display case for an action figure isn’t always easy. Like many collectors, the client spent days searching for an artist or studio capable of creating more than a standard display case—someone who could design and handcraft a complete environment around his collectible.
That search eventually led him to Jocoin Studios. What built his confidence wasn’t only the portfolio, but also the conversations, attention to detail, and shared passion for turning his idea into a one-of-a-kind collector display.

Finding the Right Studio
Before discovering Jocoin Studios, the collector explored different options but struggled to find a studio specializing in custom display cases for action figures and fully handcrafted collector environments. Most search results focused on commercial display cases or standard products rather than one-of-a-kind projects built around a specific collectible.
The goal wasn’t simply to buy a display case—it was to collaborate with a studio capable of designing and handcrafting a one-of-a-kind centerpiece specifically around the figure, its story, and the collector’s vision.
Where the Build Begins
Every exceptional display begins with careful planning and a solid foundation.
Before painting, lighting, or detailing begins, every component is carefully assembled in dry fit to evaluate proportions, composition, and structural stability. This stage allows each element to be refined before permanently becoming part of the final display.
By validating every dimension and interaction early in the process, the project moves forward with confidence, ensuring the finished display is both visually striking and structurally reliable.
Sculpting the Environment
With the overall structure defined, the focus shifted to shaping the environment surrounding the figure.
Every rock formation, fractured surface, and terrain layer was individually hand-carved from XPS foam. Rather than using pre-made scenery, each element was sculpted from scratch to create a natural composition inspired by the energy and atmosphere of the scene.
This stage transformed simple construction materials into the foundation of the final display.
Painting Every Detail
Once the sculpting was complete, the focus shifted to surface finishing and color.
Every layer of primer, acrylic paint, dry brushing, and weathering was applied by hand to enhance depth and realism. Rather than relying on a single coat of paint, multiple techniques were combined to create natural stone textures and emphasize every carved detail.
The transformation from raw XPS foam to realistic terrain was one of the most rewarding stages of the entire project.
Lighting That Brings the Scene to Life
Every lighting element was carefully integrated to enhance the atmosphere while keeping the focus entirely on the figure.
The illuminated moon, concealed LED system, and layered background work together to create depth, contrast, and visual balance. Every cable, mounting point, and lighting component was intentionally hidden so that only the finished presentation remains visible.
Rather than simply adding illumination, the entire display was engineered to recreate the dramatic atmosphere of Gear 5 while preserving the clean appearance and premium craftsmanship expected from a collector-quality display.
